Vol. 195 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired Army Accounting Officer.

54.

asked the Minister for Defence with reference to the retired officer referred to by him as the unit Accounting Officer in the Dáil on 22nd May, 1962 on Vote 47, and having regard to the Quartermaster-General's serious view of the omission as referred to by the Minister, whether any disciplinary or other appropriate action was taken in respect of the said officer before he ceased to be a person subject to military law.

No disciplinary or other similar action was taken against the officer before his retirement from the Permanent Defence Forces. He was permitted to retire at his own request to take up civil employment before the proceedings and findings of the court of inquiry had been finally considered—an act of clemency which all concerned now have good cause for regretting, seeing that it is being regarded as a matter for criticism rather than an act of clemency.
