asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been drawn to statements made by the National Farmers' Association on 7th June expressing anxiety as to the possible competitive position of the nitrogenous fertiliser industry in this country, particularly in the event of the possible closure of Saint Patrick's Copper Mines; and whether he has any comment to make on the statements.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in view of present doubts about the Avoca mines he will make a statement on the present position of the projected nitrogenous fertiliser factory at Shelton Abbey, County Wicklow.

I have seen the statement referred to by Deputy Treacy.
I would refer the Deputies to what I have said on this subject on 21st February in the course of the discussion on a supplementary estimate for my Department (Dáil Debates, Volume 193, No. 3, Column 482).
