Vol. 196 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Cottages.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is a fact that his Department received proposals from the Offaly County Council to erect nine cottages at Ballycumber, County Offaly; and that he has given his approval and sanction for the erection of only three of these cottages; and if he will give the reason why the required nine cottages are not being erected in this area in view of the serious local housing shortage.

It is not a fact that my Department received a proposal from Offaly County Council for the provision of a scheme of nine cottages at Ballycumber. A proposal to accept a tender for the erection of three cottages was received last March and approved in April. As regards the last part of the Question, the assessment of housing need and the formulation of proposals for re-housing of person in the eligible categories is the responsibility of the housing authority.
