Vol. 196 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Old IRA Service Medals.

37.

asked the Minister for Defence the total number of Old IRA service medals issued to date to persons in (a) North Tipperary and (b) South Tipperary, and the number of applications which were disallowed in each place.

The information requested by the Deputy will take some time to compile and I regret, therefore, that I am unable to supply it today. If it will suit the Deputy, however, I will send him the information as soon as it is ready.

Would the Minister not consider having the reply inserted in the Official Report? The Minister for Finance has promised to do that in respect of a reply which he said was too long.

The reply was ready.

Yes, but the Minister said he would have it inserted in the Official Report. All I am asking now is will the Minister for Defence have the reply to this question also inserted in the Official Report?

It is not available.

When it is available.

I think it should be dealt with on the lines suggested in connection with question in regard to military service.

I am not concerned with the type of question. I believe in the principle that if a question is asked in Dáil Éireann the reply should be available to all Deputies in the Official Report. I think at some stage the Ceann Comhairle should rule on that.

I think the Chair should rule on that.
