Vol. 196 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Service: Increased State Contribution.

10.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the great and increasing hardship imposed on ratepayers in County Kerry, arising largely from the cost of the health services; and if he will take immediate steps to alleviate this burden by increasing the State contribution to the cost of these services to at least seventy-five per cent.

One item in the terms of reference of the Select Committee on the Health Services is:

"to examine the existing arrangements for meeting the cost of the services and alternative arrangements which might be adopted for meeting such costs".

The Deputy will appreciate that the Government must await the results of this review and examination before considering any change in the present arrangements under which generous aid has been given by the State since 1947 towards the financing of the health services.
