Vol. 196 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disclosure of Pensions.

48.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is bound under the Official Secrets Acts not to disclose any information regarding persons who are in receipt of old age pensions, widows pensions, etc. that may come to his knowledge; and if he has received any complaints of such disclosures.

I am not clear what exactly the Deputy has in mind. I may say, however, that in general any information that becomes available through transactions with the Department regarding persons in receipt of Old Age or other Social Welfare pensions is treated as strictly confidential and is not disclosed without the consent of the person concerned. I have received no complaints that any information was wrongfully disclosed.
