Vol. 196 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Service Medals.

22.

asked the Minister for Defence the total number of service (1917-1921) medals issued (a) with bars and (b) without bars to applicants in the whole of Ireland, and the total number of applications rejected.

The answer to the Deputy's question is (a) 15,023 and (b) 43,040. The number of applications refused is 4,276. Of the medals without bar issued, some 400 were held on re-investigation not to have been duly awarded.

The figures given are the totals of medals issued and applications rejected but it would not be possible to say how many of the applicants reside outside Ireland.
