asked the Minister for Defence the number of (a) officers, (b) non-commissioned officers and (c) men at present stationed in Dún Uí Mhaoil Íosa, Galway, in the Gaelic-speaking First Battalion.

26.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of (a) officers, (b) non-commissioned officers and (c) men in the Gaelic-speaking First Battalion who are natives of (i) the Connemara Gaeltacaht and (ii) any other Gaeltacht.

I propose with your permission, A Cheann Comhairle, to take questions Nos. 25 and 26 together.

There are 14 officers, 34 non-commissioned officers and 65 privates of Na Buan Óglaigh at present stationed in Dún Uí Mhaoil Iosa in an Chéad Chathlán Coisithe. Of these, 1 officer, 8 non-commissioned officers and 17 privates are natives of the Connemara Gaeltacht and 4 non-commissioned officers only are natives of other Gaeltacht areas.

In addition, two companies of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil are integrated with An Chéad Chathlán Coisithe. The strength of these two companies is 10 officers, 18 non-commissioned officers and 325 privates, all of whom are from the Connemara Gaeltacht.
