asked the Minister for External Affairs whether Irish representatives abroad offer legal aid or advice of any kind to Irish nationals who are arrested and accused of either civil or criminal offences abroad; and, if so, in what circumstances do they offer such legal aid or advice.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legal Aid for Irish Nationals Abroad.
One of the functions of Irish representatives abroad is to help in any way possible Irish citizens in difficulties. The representatives do not offer legal advice themselves nor do they arrange for free legal aid at the expense of the Irish Government. If requested, however, by the citizen concerned they recommend a suitable lawyer.
