Vol. 196 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Amenity Schemes.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give the list of the amenity schemes submitted by Meath County Council since the commencement of the amenity grant scheme, the estimated cost of each scheme, and the decision of his Department in each case.

Meath County Council have applied for two grants under the scheme of grants for the provision of works of public amenity. One application relates to the provision of a car-park beside the County Hall, An Uaimh, and the estimated cost of the works involved is stated in the application to be £407 3s. 2d. The second application is in respect of the provision of access to beaches at Laytown and Bettystown. The cost of the work involved in this case is estimated at £620. Details of both proposals are at present being examined in my Department.

Would the Minister not agree that there was considerable delay in dealing with the second application? In view of the fact that this amenity grant is in respect of a seaside resort, would the Minister pay attention to the matter as quickly as possible?

I do not agree at all that there has been any avoidable delay.

The local authority say this was sent many months ago. Is that correct or not?

I have a note of the second application from the Meath County Council. It was received on 16th July, 1962. It asks for concrete steps to provide access to the beaches at Laytown and Bettystown.
