The total number of pupils from recognised secondary schools examined in Irish and the number of them who failed in that subject at the Leaving Certificate Examination in each of the years 1952 to 1962 inclusive are as follows (it is not to be assumed that these pupils would have passed the Examination as a whole but for their failure in Irish):—
