Vol. 197 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Industry.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been drawn to forecasts that the present boom in the building trade in this country may be followed by a slump in the next few years; and whether, in view of the statement by the Parliamentary Secretary on 20th October that with careful long-term planning and co-ordination the building industry in Ireland need never again experience a decline, he will state what steps are now being taken on these lines to avert the possibility of a slump.

My attention has been drawn to the statements in question.

In relation to building programmes which the Government can control, arrangements will be made to ensure that there is an even flow of building works in the years ahead. The volume of such works and the expenditure thereon will be maintained at present levels approximately and will be reviewed from time to time.
