Vol. 197 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Licence Prosecutions.

36.

asked the Minister for Justice how many people have been summoned for the non-purchase of TV licences since January, 1961; how many of them were fined; how many cases were dismissed; what was the total amount of all fines; and whether he is satisfied that the District Courts had sufficient time to deal with each case adequately.

The total number of prosecutions to date for non-possession of TV licences is approximately 7,000. The other information asked for by the Deputy is not available, and a considerable amount of work would be involved in compiling it.

No complaints have been made to me that the District Court did not have sufficient time to deal with these cases adequately.
