Vol. 197 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wet Time Insurance.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if in view of the satisfactory position of the wet time insurance fund he will increase the rates of benefit from the fund so as to bring them nearer to the wages lost on building jobs because of bad weather.

Changes in rates of wet time insurance benefit are made by regulations and previous changes were made following consultation with the workers' and the employers' representatives. In the course of a discussion in July last between officers of my Department and trade union representatives, the latter indicated that they would communicate further with the Department on the question of the rates of wet time benefit. Any decision on this question would have to be taken with due regard to the necessity for ensuring the continued solvency of the Fund.

I take it it is being considered?

It is. As I have said, we are waiting——

For a reply from the trade union.
