Vol. 197 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Skoda Cars.

5.

asked the Taoiseach the number and value of Skoda cars imported each year since 1959.

Imports of cars are brought to account under the headings of the Official Import List, which does not distinguish between individual makes of cars. However, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing, firstly, the value of road motor vehicles (body and chassis aggregates) imported from Czechoslovakia each year from 1959, and in the first nine months of this year, and secondly, the number of Skoda cars registered and licensed for the first time in each year since 1959 and in the nine months ended 30th September, 1962.

Following is the statement:—

(1) Imports of Road Motor Vehicles (body and chassis aggregates) from Czechoslovakia in each year 1959-1961 and in the period January-September 1962.

In view of the fact that these come from Iron Curtain countries and that the Minister has lowered the tariff wall in favour of the countries of the Common Market, will he increase the tariffs on these Iron Curtain countries?

That seems to be a separate question.

I hope the Minister will bear it in mind.
