Vol. 198 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Connaught Rangers (Pensions) Bill, 1962—Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

Has the Minister given any consideration to the outstanding questions relating to Connaught Rangers?

The people who are claiming that they did suffer, and all that sort of thing. There are about 10 of them altogether and they have been in the files of the Department for a long time.

I understand that the cases that have been referred to by Deputy MacEoin and Deputy Coogan are cases in which the men concerned were actually acquitted of the charge of mutiny.

Yes, but, at the same time, they were out afterwards.

They were there.

They were discharged.

I cannot answer that part of it, as to whether they were discharged or not.

They just did not suffer. That is all. They joined the Army.

Question put and agreed to.

This Bill is certified as a Money Bill in accordance with Article 22 of the Constitution.
