Vol. 199 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Auxiliary Postmen: Pension Rights.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider making provision for the granting of pensions to auxiliary postmen.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will reconsider the whole position with regard to the granting of pension rights to auxiliary postmen; and whether, taking into consideration the long years of their service to the public in conditions of frequent discomfort and hardship owing to adverse weather, etc., he will immediately inaugurate a superannuation scheme for them.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 35 and 36 together.

The existing Superannuation Acts do not permit of the introduction of a pension scheme for part-time employees like auxiliary postmen and the question of extending the scope of these Acts is one which the Minister for Finance would have to consider in relation to the State service as a whole.
