Vol. 199 No. 10

Special Committee on Companies Bill, 1962. - Minister for Industry and Commerce: Nomination of Substitute—Motion.

I move:

That the Minister for Industry and Commerce may, if he is unable to be present at any meeting of the Special Committee on the Companies Bill, 1962, nominate another member of the Government or a Parliamentary Secretary to act in his stead at any such meeting.

I should like to express the hope that it will be possible for the Minister for Industry and Commerce to attend future meetings of the Select Committee. The Minister has proved most accommodating during the time we have already spent in discussing that Bill and I think it would be virtually impossible for somebody else to take over halfway through.

The Committee meets when the Dáil is also meeting and when the Minister may be engaged in the House. It therefore is desirable to have some alternative arrangement to enable the Committee to function when the Minister has to be in the House.

It might be better for the Committee to change the time of its meetings to suit the Minister.

Question put and agreed to.
