Vol. 199 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glynn (Wexford) Garda Station.

58.

asked the Minister for Justice the date of completion of the new Garda station built in Glynn, County Wexford; whether the reason why the station is not yet occupied is that there is no water supply; whether he is aware that at present the Gardaí for whom the station was built are forced to reside at some distance from Glynn; and whether he will take immediate steps to have a water supply provided, and the station put into use.

The new Garda station at Glynn, County Wexford, which comprises an official unit and two sets of married quarters, was completed in June, 1962. The official unit is in use since then but the married quarters have not been occupied pending provision of a water supply. I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that the plans for the station were prepared on the assumption that a public water supply would be available for connection to the premises on completion. It transpired, however, that the yield from the well sunk by the county council was found to be inadequate. If an alternative scheme at present being considered by the county council is not implemented within a reasonable time the Commissioners of Public Works propose to take independent action to have a water supply provided.
