Vol. 201 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Stamp Duty Paid by Solicitors.

7.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance the number of solicitors in the Twenty-Six County area who paid stamp duty on their annual practising certificates (a) in 1850, or in the first year in which such duty was paid, and (b) in the last year in which such duty was paid.

I regret that there are no records now available which would enable me to supply the information which the Deputy is seeking in the first part of his question.

Stamp duty on solicitors' annual practising certificates was terminated in 1954. In that year the number of solicitors who paid stamp duty in the State on their certificates was 1,297.
