An extension of service beyond the normal retiring age may be granted to any usher, messenger, etc., in the State service or indeed to any civil servant on grounds of public interest, hardship or national service or in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 (4) of the Civil Service Regulation Act, 1956. Service in the Army is not taken into account in administering the retention arrangements referred to.
Does that apply to the Garda Síochána?
