Vol. 202 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Toomevara (Tipperary) Speed Limit.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to have the village of Toomevara, County Tipperary included in the list of places to which the 30 m.p.h. speed limit applies.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the village of Toomevara, Nenagh, County Tipperary was excluded from the speed limit of 30 miles per hour, as the village is situated on the main Dublin to Limerick Road, and as there is need for a speed limit through the village.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions No. 58 and 59 together.

The technical committee set up in County Tipperary (North Riding) to consider the application of the "built-up area" and "special" speed limits did not recommend that a speed limit be introduced in Toomevara. Neither did the county council.

I have already indicated in replies to Questions on 21st February and 2nd April last that the operation of speed limits in each area will be kept under review by the local technical committees and it is open to those interested to make suggestions to the local authority for consideration by the technical committee at the end of this year.
