Vol. 202 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Post Office.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, having regard to the volume of business which has to be transacted in the Ballyfermot post office, Dublin, he will arrange for the provision of improved facilities in the area, so that users of the post office services can have adequate privacy in transacting their business.

The facilities available in the two post offices in Ballyfermot are adequate to meet the volume of business normally transacted in them and they compare favourably as regards provision of privacy with those at other city post offices.

Has the Minister taken into account the fact that people using these offices wish to have a certain amount of privacy when transacting their business? I have not questioned the facilities provided but I have asked for some arrangement whereby a person can have some privacy when doing his business. The Minister cannot say that privacy is possible in either of these two places.

The report I have here says the accommodation is adequate and that it compares favourably with that of other offices in the city and with banks and other institutions.

I did not refer to other sub-post offices in the city. My opinion would be, from entering any of these, that the same comment applies. Whether you take Harold's Cross or Terenure, the position is that, irrespective of postal facilities, there is not enough room.
