Vol. 202 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kinnitty (Offaly) Speed Limit.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he proposes to provide a speed limit of 30 miles per hour at the village of Kinnitty, County Offaly.

Neither the technical committee set up in County Offaly to consider the application of the speed limits nor the County Council recommended that a speed limit should be introduced at Kinnitty and the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) Regulations, 1963, did not, therefore, provide for a speed limit there.

As I have indicated in replies to previous questions on the subject of speed limits, the operation of these limits will be kept under review by the local technical committees and it is open to those interested to make suggestions to the local authority concerned for consideration by the committee and the local authority at the end of the year.

Would the Minister state what is meant by "technical committees?"

A committee, as far as I know, of certain officers of the local authority and the Garda Síochána.
