asked the Taoiseach if he was recently interviewed by representatives of an American magazine; and if the views attributed to him in an article in the issue of that magazine dated July 12th, 1963, represent fairly what he told these reporters.

asked the Taoiseach if he told a representative of an American magazine that he had unequivocally committed his nation to support NATO policies, as published in the issue of that magazine dated July 12th; if so, when he committed the nation to these policies; and with whom he held consultations before so doing.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

I was recently interviewed by a representative of the magazine Time. Although I did not see the article referred to before its publication, remarks of mine quoted in the article and views attributed to me and introduced by words indicating that I gave them to the writer of the article are a fair representation of what I said to him.

I am not responsible for any other statements in the article. Specifically, the reply to the first part of Question No. 2 is in the negative.

Is the Taoiseach taking any steps to make the position clear in regard to that part of the interview which it is alleged he gave in relation to NATO?

The reply I have just given will have that effect.

I am sure the Taoiseach will not get the same publicity again in Time.
