Vol. 204 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIO Reports.

37.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) the number of reports which have been published by the Committee on Industrial Organisation; (b) the industries covered; (c) when further reports will be published; and (d) what industries will be covered by the later reports.

Eight survey reports by the Committee on Industrial Organisation have already been published on the following industries:

Cotton, Linen and Rayon; Leather Footwear, Paper and Paperboard, Motor Vehicle Assembly, Fertilisers, Shirts, Mantles and Gowns, and Miscellaneous Clothing and Accessories.

I expect the reports on the following industries to be published at intervals between next month and early next year:

Wireless, Television and Telecommunications; Chemicals, Hosiery and Knitwear, Iron and Steel Manufactures, Sugar, etc. Confectionery; Printing, Pottery, Women's and Girls' Readymade Clothing (other than Mantles and Gowns), Electrical Equipment and Apparatus, Woollen and Worsted goods, Paper Products, Tanning, Men's and Boys' Readymade Clothing, Furniture, and Canning of Fruit and Vegetables.

Will the Minister say whether that will exhaust the list of surveys?

No, there will be surveys of single-product industries and smaller industries that are not general to the different parts of the country. These will be surveyed as soon as the specialised teams are available.

Do I take it from what the Minister has said that these are multiple-firm industries and that, after that list has been exhausted, you only have the single-firm industry?

That is right.
