Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duty on Beet Insecticide.

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that farmers and beet growers have expressed keen disappointment and dissatisfaction with the severe duty imposed on Roger E; and if, in view of the urgency of this matter in the interests of saving the beet crop, he will have this duty removed immediately, as farmers consider it unreasonable.

28.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received representations from (1) the NFA and (2) the Sugar Beet Growers' Association in relation to the duty imposed on Roger E; and why he did not meet their wishes in the matter.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 27 and 28 together. I am not aware that farmers and beet growers have expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction in regard to this customs duty and no representations have been received by me from the National Farmers' Association or the Sugar Beet Growers' Association. I am advised that Roger E is not superior to insecticides manufactured here.
