Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford City Housing

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position regarding the building of new houses by the Waterford Corporation in Waterford City.

Waterford Corporation has provided a total of 2,955 houses, 1,462 of which have been provided since 1947. At 31st May last, the corporation had a further 44 houses in progress, had formulated plans for three further schemes covering 169 houses and had acquired additional land capable of accommodating about 1,900 houses.

In regard to the group of 169 houses, would the Minister expedite final sanction for their construction?

I can assure the Deputy that anything that is with me will get immediate attention, but the part of the 169 house scheme which is not with me——

They have been before the Minister now since January and have been up and down to Waterford in the meantime. If the Minister looks into it now, I feel sure he will find this matter can be dealt with immediately.

That is what I feel, too, but I am unfortunately not always meeting with the same attitude elsewhere.
