Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Widow's Pension.

44.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a woman (name and address supplied), whose husband was supposed to be lost in the London blitz over twenty years ago, and who has not heard from him since, is now entitled to a widow's pension; and, if not, if he will take steps to enable her to receive a pension.

My Department cannot trace the receipt of a claim to widow's pension from the woman named by the Deputy. If she has, in fact, submitted a claim and the Deputy will furnish me with the number of the claim or the date on which it was made and the address from which it was sent I will have further inquiries made in the matter. If, however, she has not yet made a claim she should do so on a claim form obtainable at any post office and post it, together with any documentary or other evidence she may have concerning the alleged death of her husband, to the Department. If the evidence available is sufficient to warrant the reasonable presumption of her husband's death she may be granted a widow's pension, provided, of course, that she is not disqualified on means or other grounds.
