Vol. 205 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hill-Land Grazings.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the finding of An Foras Talúntais in its survey of West Cork that hill-land grazings could be greatly improved through relatively simple techniques, including overseeding, manuring and fencing, and that fencing may be a problem where commonage rights prevail, he is prepared to allocate officials to the area in South Kerry where such grazings frequently occur and to arrange the subdivision of the commonages amongst the holders of the rights of commonage.

It is open to interested parties to apply to the Land Commission under the Land Acts for partition of lands held in common. The relevant statutes are Section 24, Land Act, 1939; Section 25, Land Act, 1950 and Section 23, Land Act, 1953. Should existing staff arrangements prove inadequate to ensure the operation of schemes resulting from such applications I shall have the matter examined.
