Vol. 205 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oughterard (Galway) Land Division.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands what proposals he has in relation to land division in the Oughterard area of County Galway.

In this area, there are no large estates of arable land available for division but holdings aggregating 160 acres are the subject of enquiries for possible acquisition. Inquiries are continuing in an effort to procure other suitable lands, possibly by migration.

In addition, some 1,350 acres of turbary are in course of acquisition or development.

During recent years, upwards of 100 fragmented holdings have been enlarged and rearranged and 500 acres of turbary have been developed and allotted by the Land Commission in this part of County Galway.

Can the Minister indicate when he might possibly finalise matters in this area?

The Deputy would need to be more specific in a supplementary question. What particular aspect does he want finalised?

It applies all over the country, as the Minister knows well.
