Vol. 206 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wicklow County Council Cottages.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to the County of Wicklow (a) the number of county council cottages in respect of which the tenants have requested repairs which have not yet been dealt with; and (b) what steps are being taken to put the necessary repair work in hand.

The information requested at (a) is not available. As regards (b), I am informed by the housing authority that necessary repair work is being carried out as expeditiously as possible but that it is retarded by the limited financial provision made for this service and by the difficulty in getting tradesmen to undertake the work.

61.

asked the Minister for local Government if he will state in relation to the County of Wicklow (a) the number of applications for vesting of county council cottages at present outstanding, and (b) the reasons for the delay in vesting.

At 31st March last, the latest date for which details are available in my Department, Wicklow County Council had on hands 1,000 applications for vesting of labourers' cottages. Vesting operations have been delayed by the limited amounts provided by the council to finance cottage repairs prior to vesting and by the scarcity in the county of tradesmen and small contractors to carry out such repairs.
