Vol. 206 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marketing of Meat.

23.

andMr. T. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Agriculture if Ireland is privy to the discussions that are listed to take place in London between New Zealand and the United Kingdom in which future meat marketing will be discussed.

The discussions referred to are part of the bilateral consultations which the British Government are conducting with their principal suppliers of meat on the proposals announced in May last by the British Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the stabilisation of the British fatstock and meat market. Similar discussions between the British and Irish Governments have already been initiated.

Could the Minister indicate when these discussions will take place, or whether they will take place before or after the New Zealand discussions?

They have taken place already.

When did they take place?

On two occasions, as far back as September.

Was there any outcome?

It is not unusual for discussions involving such a big problem to continue for some time.

Did anything happen?

Something always happens when you have discussions.

Nothing happened. If it did, it would have appeared in the Irish Press the following day.
