Vol. 206 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Dwelling Acquisition Act Loans.

40.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the Dublin County Council take up to nine days to reply to enquiries as to the balance outstanding on Small Dwelling Acquisition Act loans; and if, having regard to the serious inconvenience thereby caused to borrowers and their solicitors, steps will be taken to expedite the issue of such necessary information.

I am informed by Dublin County Council that replies to enquiries of the type referred to by the Deputy are issued as expeditiously as possible and normally within three to four days.

Mr. Ryan

Is the Minister aware that there must be a backlog over the past month? The County Council admitted that delays have occurred in recent times and is he aware of what steps have been taken to avoid such delays in future?

The only thing I am aware of is that they do admit that in exceptional cases three to four days may not, in fact, be the time but in other cases, it may be even less. In exceptional cases, the time may be somewhat longer but I am not aware of any general backlog as is suggested by the Deputy.

Mr. Ryan

I am sure the question will have the desired effect anyway.
