Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether the services of any outside firms of business consultants, efficiency experts, organisation and methods advisers or such like were engaged by his Department, or by any authority for which his Department are responsible, within the last six years; and, if so, if he will state the number of persons so employed, and the cost and duration of their employment.

A telecommunications expert was engaged in an advisory capacity from 2nd January, 1958 to 30th June, 1958, under the United Nations Technical Assistance Programme. The Department's contribution to the cost involved amounted to £313 5s. Od.

Would the Minister get some efficiency experts to examine the operation of the automatic exchanges?

There are plenty of experts in the Department for that.

asked the Minister for Education whether the services of any outside firms of business consultants, efficiency experts, organisation and methods advisers or such like were engaged by his Department, or by any authority for which his Department are responsible, within the last six years; and, if so, if he will state the number of persons so employed, and the cost and duration of their employment.

No such services have been engaged by my Department or by any authority for which my Department is responsible. The work connected with organisation and methods in my Department is carried out by officers of the Department.
