Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Families in Dublin Barracks: Garda Action.

135.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to a report that the husbands of women in accommodation provided for women and children by the Dublin Health Authority at Griffith Square, Dublin, were ordered out of the building by plain clothes policemen; if the report is correct: if so, by what authority such orders were given by members of the Garda Síochána; and, if the report is incorrect, what steps are being taken to ensure that unauthorised persons do not masquerade as members of the Garda Síochána while endeavouring to evict people from premises.

The Garda Síochána did not give orders to these men to leave the premises but members of the Force were present, as was their duty, at the request of the Dublin Health Authority, in order to prevent any breach of the peace that might be threatened when the men were being directed by the health authority to leave.
