Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grading of Hotels.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that a number of small hoteliers in Wicklow have had it intimated to them by the Irish Tourist Board that there is a proposal for revision of the regulations governing the registration and grading of hotels, which would have the effect of precluding their hotels from registration as such unless substantial additions and alterations are made; if he will state precisely what changes in the regulations are proposed; and if he will take steps to ensure that no changes are made which will alter the status of, or prejudice the position of, the many small hotels, particularly family hotels, at present in existence, and that they will apply only to hotels seeking registration for the first time.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte Éireann that they are contemplating changes in the present Registration Regulations to bring them into line with the need for improved standards in the hotel industry. These changes will require my consent before they can be implemented. The Deputy's representations will be borne in mind at the appropriate time.
