Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Electric Cookers.

26.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the fact that the Electricity Supply Board have informed many persons who bought electrical cookers more than five years ago that the models bought by them are now obsolete, and that, as manufacturers are not now producing rings and other components for such cookers, the Board are unable to repair them, thereby compelling persons to buy new cookers, he will take steps to prevent artificial and unnecessary creation of obsolescence in electrical equipment by manufacturers and the Electricity Supply Board.

I am advised that the Electricity Supply Board have not told consumers who bought cookers more than five years ago that they are now obsolete.
