Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Advertising Notices.

46.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Electricity Supply Board applied to either the Dublin Corporation or the Dublin County Council for permission to affix large commercial advertising notice boards to lamp standards on roadways in the areas of these authorities; if so, whether such permission was given; if having regard to the impairment to the amenities of Dublin suburbs caused by such boards, particularly in the Terenure, Kimmage, Walkinstown and Templeogue areas, he will have steps taken to have them removed immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the ESB have not applied to either Dublin Corporation or Dublin County Council for permission to display notice boards on lamp standards. I am informed that any such boards which may be displayed are affixed to poles which are the property of the ESB and which are used for public lighting purposes by the local authorities concerned by agreement with the ESB.

There is no power at present to require the ESB to remove the notice boards in question but the question of removal can be considered when the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, comes into operation.
