Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers Acts Housing.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of State grants given to local authorities for the erection of houses under the Labourers Acts for each of the following classes: (a) those living in a condemned house; (b) those living in overcrowded conditions; and (c) those living in normal conditions.

Financial assistance from State funds for the provision by county councils of houses under the Labourers Acts is given by way of subsidy towards annual loan charges. The maximum yearly subsidy in respect of a house for the accommodation of a family displaced from a condemned house or previously living in overcrowded conditions is £69 12s. for a serviced house and £46 8s. for an unserviced house. Subsidy at half these rates is payable in respect of houses provided to meet normal housing needs.
