Vol. 207 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loan Schemes for Farmers' Houses.

79.

asked the Minister for Lands when the new loan schemes for assisting farmers to build new houses are likely to be put into operation; and what is the present position.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the scheme whereby advances of up to £500 may be given by the Land Commission to supplement grants from the Department of Local Government for the erection of new houses or for reconstruction of existing houses. This scheme is now substantially in operation. A special section has been set up in the Land Commission to administer the scheme and the very large volume of correspondence already received is being dealt with as quickly as possible.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the forms for the purpose of making application do not yet appear to be available?

My information is that they are available and that the matter is being dealt with at the moment.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary take my word that on application a few days ago it was found they were not printed?

If the Deputy brings it to my notice I will have it investigated.

I am bringing it to the Parliamentary Secretary's notice.

As a matter of fact, the Land Commission had not the faintest notion what the scheme was as late as last week.

I am quite clear in my own mind.

The usual miserable bluff.

A voice crying in the wilderness.

That is not original.
