Vol. 207 No. 12

Committee on Finance. - Vote 12—Civil Service Commission.

I move:

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £2,500 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1964, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Civil Service Commission and of the Local Appointments Commission."

This is due to three or four different causes, one of which is the new system of accountancy and bills are being paid more promptly, with the result that accounts for 17 months will be paid in this Financial Year. As well as that, there have been more competitions advertised this year than usual, due to the fact that it is harder to get enough applicants. The result is that sometimes two competitions had to be held where formerly one was held. There has also been a ten per cent increase in advertising costs. That makes up the amount I mentioned.

I wish the Minister could transmit that to some of his colleagues and get them to pay their bills. It has been very difficult to get grants for the past six weeks.

I shall encourage them to pay.

Yes—Local Government, Agriculture, Farm Building grants and Housing grants.

Vote put and agreed to.
