Dáil Éireann díospóireacht -

Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Freight Trains to North.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether proposals have been made to the Northern Ireland Government with regard to the running of non-stop freight trains from Dublin to Belfast and Derry by Córas Iompair Éireann; and, if so, what is the present position with regard to such proposals.

As indicated by me in reply to a question in Dáil Éireann on 27th February, 1964, there have been discussions with the Northern Ireland authorities at Departmental level and between CIE and the Ulster Transport Authority about the implications of pending transport changes in Northern Ireland. One of the matters at present under discussion between CIE and the Ulster Transport Authority is the operation of through rail freight services between Dublin and Belfast and Derry and I am hopeful of a satisfactory outcome.
