Vol. 209 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Carnew (Wicklow) Estate.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is proposed to give portion of the Greenacres estate at Carnew, County Wicklow, to a person (name supplied) who lives on the estate and who is the owner of an uneconomic farm.

Final arrangements have not yet been made for disposal of the residual area of 81 acres still on hands on this estate. The circumstances of the applicant in question— who resides on lands which did not come within the scope of the acquisition proceedings—are on record for consideration by the Land Commission before allocation takes place.

This man has land. He has a house on a particular estate and he has had land from the Land Commission for a number of years. What the people resent is not that migrants are coming in—they have very friendly relations with migrants— but that a non-tenant from another county purchased eight acres of land and was awarded another 40 acres by the Land Commission in preference to a man who was a tenant for a number of years. Would the Minister consider that?

This is not a question for my consideration, but for the consideration of the Land Commission. I think the Deputy is anticipating events because, as I said, details of this man's case are on the files of the Land Commission, and there are some 81 acres still unallotted on that estate.

What is the Minister's view about a non-resident from another county purchasing eight acres of land so as to qualify for and get 40 acres from the Land Commission?

There is no law in this country whereby a man from another county is to be regarded as a Baluba and prevented from buying eight acres of land.
