Vol. 210 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Water Supply.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the fact that no adequate water supply exists in the Windgates area, between Bray and Greystones, County Wicklow; that a number of houses have no supply whatever; and that many of the houses with a supply are inadequately served and, at times, left with little or no water reaching them from the existing supply source; and if, having regard to lack of amenities coupled with the health and fire hazard arising from this situation, he will take steps to ensure that the area receives adequate supply at an early date.

I understand from Wicklow County Council that a number of houses in the high area at Windgates have no piped water supply. With the co-operation of the council, efforts are being made to provide a private supply on a group basis using the existing Templecarrig source. Gaugings are being carried out at present to establish whether the latter source is adequate to serve the additional houses.
