Vol. 212 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Candidates for Secondary School Scholarships.

94.

asked the Minister for Education what criteria are applied in the selection of pupils in national schools as candidates for scholarships to secondary schools; and who has the right of final decision as to whether a child should be entered for such a scholarship.

The only criteria which can validly be applied in this matter are the eligibility of pupils under the regulations governing the award of scholarships.

It is open to any parent to arrange for his child to be a candidate at the scholarship examination, provided the child complies with the scholarship regulations in the matter of age, residence, et cetera.
