Vol. 212 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mullingar Meteorological Station.

1.

asked the Minister for Finance why neither a water supply nor sewerage is available at the meteorological station at Mullingar where six men are employed; and if it will be possible to have those services laid on.

The existing meteorological hut at Mullingar was erected in 1943 as a simple observation station. On that account the provision of water and sewerage services was not necessary— having regard to the limited use of the premises an Elsan type toilet was considered to be sufficient.

In view of the development of the service it has been decided to erect a new meteorological station at this centre and the work will be carried out as soon as possible. A water supply and modern sanitary facilities will be provided in the new building.
