Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reduction in Flour Price.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he proposes to insist that the flour price cut recently effected is reflected in a reduction in the price of bread.

The position regarding the price of bread is under examination in my Department. The effect of the recent reduction in the price of flour will, in common with the effect of the previous increases in the price of flour and other changes in production costs, be taken into consideration in arriving at a decision in the matter.

Has the Minister seen the statement by this man, Rank, in England, that he proposes to take no steps to improve or modernise the flour milling industry because he is not allowed to take sufficiently high profits out of the business here?

The Deputy has another question on the Order Paper dealing with that.

He does not know that.

If the Deputy were less hysterical about his supplementaries, we would get somewhere.

It would be all right if he were a "butty" of yours.
