asked the Minister for Defence the number of times in the past six months that the helicopter services were called out on rescue service; and if he will give the incidents in question.

Helicopters were used for the purpose indicated in the Deputy's question on seven occasions during the six months ended 31 Eanáir, 1965.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have the particulars circulated in tabular form in the Official Report.

8 Lúnasa, 1964

Rescue near Kish lightship of man and boy from small boat.

18 Lúnasa, 1964

Search for man and two children overdue in small boat which put out from Killiney. Boat seen safely in tow by trawler.

25 Lúnasa, 1964

Search off Kerry Head as a result of flares seen at night by Coast Watching Service. No one in distress.

28 Lúnasa, 1964

Boat reported on fire 3 miles north east of Inisheer in the Aran Islands. Helicopter searched area but nothing was seen.

16 Meán Fómhair, 1964.

Rescue of two women from trawler “Ros Brid” drifting off Inishturk.

2 Samhain, 1964

Search for yacht missing en route between Ardglass and Dún Laoghaire. Yacht arrived safely at Dún Laoghaire.

18 Eanáir, 1965

Injured lighthouse keeper taken off Tuskar Rock and conveyed to Wexford Hospital.

NOTE: During the same period the Helicopter Rescue Service was alerted seven times but was not required in the circumstances of the cases.
