Vol. 214 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Radioisotopes.

13.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health the procedure used for the procurement and distribution of radioisotopes within the State.

I have difficulty in interpreting the Deputy's question. Does it, for instance, relate to radioisotopes for medical use only or to radioisotopes generally? By "procurement" does he mean the source from which they may be obtained (they are not manufactured in this country), or whether there are restrictions on their supply from abroad or their purchase here and so on? Similarly, in regard to "distribution", I am not clear whether the Deputy has in mind special requirements regarding the method of transportation to, or within, this country or whether he is anxious to get information on the principles underlying decisions that they should be available in a particular hospital but not in another.

I am sure the Deputy will appreciate the difficulties of a Minister in attempting to reply to a question in so imprecise a form. Perhaps he would be good enough to put down another question indicating more clearly the information he requires.
